Five Takeaways from the New York Jets come-from-behind win over the Washington Redskins
(EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.) – The New York Jets rallied to score 24 straight points against the Washington Redskins en route to a 34-20 victory Oct. 18, 2015 at MetLife Stadium. Here are the five big takeaways from the game:
1. The stars power the offense.
Chris Ivory, Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker combined for 316 of the Jets’ 474 yards and three touchdowns. Ivory and Marshall each posted 100-yard games.
“We rely on them a lot,” head coach Todd Bowles said. “Those are good players, but we got to get contributions from other players as well. As long as these guys can go, and they can go pretty good, we’re going to rely on them. But we got to get other guys better in the process.”
2. Protect the football.
All of the Redskins’ points came from Jet miscues. Washington turned all three New York turnovers into points and blocked a punt for a score in the final minutes of the game.
3. Chris Ivory is a beast.
The running back rushed for well over 100 yards for the second consecutive game. He tallied 146 yards on 20 carries (7.3 yards per rush) and one touchdown.
4. Continue to stop the run.
The Jets limited the Redskins to 34 total yards on the ground. Alfred Morris (Washington’s leading rusher) compiled 21 yards on 11 rushing attempts.
5. Limit penalties.
The Jets had just one penalty for five yards called against them all game. New York was whistled for 14 penalties (for 163 yards) in its previous game (a win over the Miami Dolphins).
