Top-seeds Stanford and South Carolina punched their spots in the Final Four with a ton of momentum – albeit in two very different ways. South Carolina rolled over Texas, and Stanford forged a major second-half comeback to defeat Louisville.
The Cardinal trailed the Cardinals 50-48 entering the fourth quarter and then outscored the No. 2 seed 30-13 over the final 10 minutes to pull out a 78-63 victory. After trailing by 12 at halftime, the top overall seed more than doubled up Louisville (52-25) in the second half behind 63% shooting and 6-of-8 from deep.
“I told [the team at halftime] ‘don’t worry about winning; compete and be aggressive,’” Tara VanDerveer said. “We were not aggressive enough… I’m so proud of our team for the battle and just how hard we fought and how well we played.”

Lexie Hull led the way with 21 points and nine rebounds. Ashten Prechtel poured in 16 points off the bench, and Kiana Williams contributed 14 points.
Dana Evans was the lone Louisville player in double figures with 24 points, including 6-of-8 from 3-point land. Kianna Smith added eight points.
In the earlier game of the night, South Carolina routed No. 6 Texas 62-34. The Gamecocks scored 14 of the game’s first 16 points and never looked back.
The Longhorns’ 34 points is the lowest point total in an Elite Eight game or later. They were held without a point in the fourth quarter, which is the first scoreless quarter in an NCAA Tournament game. (The first season with quarters was 2015-16.)
“We were just locked in,” Dawn Staley said. “We were a team that was driven to be where we are right now. They want to go to the Final Four; they want to win a national championship, and they’re going to give it up on both sides of the ball.”

Five Gamecocks were in double figures, led by Zia Cooke’s 16 points and six rebounds. Destanni Henderson and Victoria Saxton notched 12 points apiece. Henderson also dished out seven assists, and Saxton pulled down eight boards.
Audrey Warren paced Texas with 13 points and five rebounds.
South Carolina and Stanford meet for a second time in the Final Four. They squared off in the 2017 national semifinal, which the Gamecocks won en route to the program’s only national title. UConn and Arizona are set to face each other in the other semifinal. These Final Four games are scheduled for Friday.
